Zoo Station: The Story of Christiane F. (2013/1978).

Story behind the Passage

There are people who want to move on, get out of their comfort zone — learn. And there are people who learned early in life that, whenever they have some idea, other people can implement it. They watch, they cheer, they are proud of the results but not once does it occur to them that they could actually be the ones doing the job. They decide to watch. Sometimes they think about how it would be to also do something, do more than just delegate. But that sounds like work — the kind of work that takes effort and endurance. One would have to develop some skills that create actual value, e.g., thinking and writing.

I am not going to do it for these people.

My Learnings

Running in the street,

eyes wide open.

Half smiling,

Half crying.

Desperate.

Need a new shot.

In panic.

Looking for the dealer.

Gathering the last money.

Running on.

Where is he?

She?

The next creative shot?

Who can help?

There, in sight.

Running towards the source.

Greeted with joy.

Letting go,

giving full trust.

Finally, the needle in sight.

After hours.

The face looks pale.

Short diversion.

Short relief.

Waking up.

Blinded by the sun.

Going on for years.

Looing for more.

More creative addiction.

Getting lost in nowhere.

Sick and empty.

Enough is enough.

Praying and crying.

Not seeing the tunnel.

Running in the street again.

Banging the head against the wall.

Time flies.

More shots.

The face darker and paler.

Eyes getting empty.

Heart feeling cold.

Holding on,

to the addiction.

Short creative shots

No peace.

Longing for liberation.

It cannot be forced.

The universe patient.

The mirror cries.

One more shot?

No!

Reflection Questions

1) Did you ever try any drugs? If yes, how was the experience?

2) Do you know any “creative junkies” who jump from one creative project to the next?

3) Have you read “Zoo Station”?
